Breakfast Today: Orange Ginger Smoothie

orange ginger smoothie

If you got a blender as a gift over the holidays and you have been experimenting with smoothies and juices, add this Orange Ginger Smoothie to your recipe list. The bright and fresh flavor of orange and the spicy heat of the ginger are a perfect combo to help you start the day. Plus, it has plenty of protein and heart healthy omegas.

Healthy fats are an important part of a good diet. The main omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Getting adequate amounts of these three fatty acids are vital to both heart and brain health. The addition of hempseed or flaxseed oil to this shake are great vegetarian options to getting these important essential fatty acids.

Orange Ginger Smoothie

• 1/2 cup chilled soy milk (or whatever non dairy milk you prefer)
• 4 oz plain soft tofu
• Freshly squeezed juice from 1 orange
• 2 tsp lemon juice
• 1 tsp grated ginger root
• 1 Tbsp hempseed or flaxseed oil

In a high-speed blender, combine milk, tofu, orange and lemon juice, and ginger. Blend at high speed until smooth and creamy. Add oil and give it a quick pulse. Pour into a glass and enjoy.
